Barrett Browning says she is quite ‘uneasy’ about Blagden’s uncharacteristic silence in case she is ‘ill, or unhappy in some strange way’. She asks whether Blagden received her letter ‘with its account of the two Lyttons’ and when Barrett Browning last met Edward Bulwer Lytton. Robert Browning sent Blagden his book ‘immediately on its publication’. They have heard promising things and translations are in preparation. She says that Blagden missed out not coming to Paris for though the rents are high the prices are otherwise reasonable, however Barrett Browning was unwell for a little while after arriving in Paris. She has heard from Sophia Cottrell whose aunt recently passed of cholera. She describes the cholera ‘epidemic’ in Florence. Mrs Sartoris and Caroline Norton are in Paris. Barrett Browning expresses her uncertainty regarding Blagden’s precise address. Pen is recovered from a cold. She says Charlotte Cushman is ‘unlucky’ in her selection of plays though Barrett Browning hears that Cushman’s ‘acting was very fine’ in the play ‘Beginning & End’.
