Barrett Browning asks Blagden to send her the \u2018address of the apartment recommended\u2019 to her. She says she is better subsisting on cod liver\u2019s oil and sitting by the fire. She also says they had a \u2018brilliant day\u2019 at the closing of the Exposition Universelle though she grumbles that Blagden is still in England and hasn\u2019t joined them. She indicates that Blagden could get an apartment in Paris \u2018on cheaper terms in a week or two\u2019 and doesn\u2019t approve of Blagden\u2019s plan to go to Madrid. \n\nThere have good subscriptions of Robert Browning's Men and Women. Now she is waiting for the reviews. She makes a reference to Jessie White. Barrett Browning wishes for news from Florence especially regarding Hume\u2019s impact on \u2018certain minds there\u2019. She says the \u2018volumes\u2019 owe a \u2018large debt\u2019 to Blagden when she was a faithful secretary to Robert Browning. She says she thought of Miss Cushman for \u2018In the Balcony\u2019 (a closet drama published in Men and Women). She says Lytton is easily persuaded but \u2018has a purer ideal\u2019 than his father. Monsieur Milsand is translating Men and Women. She says \u2018I have forgotten the meaning of new poems. Except Robert\u2019s.\u2019. She asks after Louisa Alexander (recently left for India) and says that Penini does not forget Blagden and calls her \u2018Isabella\u2019. \n\nThis letter has been transcribed in 'The Brownings' Correspondence', vol. 22, p.  1\u20133 (Kansas: Wedgestone Press, 2015).
