She also says they had a ‘brilliant day’ at the closing of the Exposition Universelle though she grumbles that Blagden is still in England and hasn’t joined them. She indicates that Blagden could get an apartment in Paris ‘on cheaper terms in a week or two’ and doesn’t approve of Blagden’s plan to go to Madrid. There have good subscriptions of Robert Browning's Men and Women. Now she is waiting for the reviews. She makes a reference to Jessie White. Barrett Browning wishes for news from Florence especially regarding Hume’s impact on ‘certain minds there’. She says the ‘volumes’ owe a ‘large debt’ to Blagden when she was a faithful secretary to Robert Browning. She says she thought of Miss Cushman for ‘In the Balcony’ (a closet drama published in Men and Women). She says Lytton is easily persuaded but ‘has a purer ideal’ than his father. Monsieur Milsand is translating Men and Women. She says ‘I have forgotten the meaning of new poems. Except Robert’s.’. She asks after Louisa Alexander (recently left for India) and says that Penini does not forget Blagden and calls her ‘Isabella’.
