She says she is better now for they have taken warmer rooms with a view of the Champs Elyssées. However she still yearns for Italy. She requests Blagden to bring ‘one or two of those little beginning French books’ and some maps. She has heard from Sophia Cottrell in France about Daniel Douglas Hume. Cottrell and her husband are ‘implicit believers’. She describes events at a seance and says ‘Of course Robert believes just as little as he did. I dont understand on what principles human beings believe or disbelieve.’. She mentions the reviews for Men and Women in places such as the Examiner and British Quarterly. She speculates on Harriet 'Hatty' Hosmer’s relationship with Shakespeare Wood. Catherine Dickens has visited them.
