She likes Jarves’s Why and What Am I? The Confessions of an Inquirer. In Three Parts. Part I. Heart-Experience; or, the Education of the Emotions despite its ‘drawbacks’. Likewise ‘Mrs Jameson is much struck by the book’. She makes a veiled allusion possibly to a disagreement with Robert Browning over spiritualism. She says ‘In fact, I have abdicated at Casa Guidi, altogether.
