Barrett Browning says that Blagden is \u2018too good & too generous\u2019 and suffers as a result. Barrett Browning refers to her own \u2018sense of humiliation\u2019 that she has not been able to save Blagden from anything (this is a possible reference to their shared ongoing disappointment with Lytton). Barrett Browning has told Robert Browning that \u2018Annette was going back\u2019. She thanks Blagden for the roses but \u2018they look too pathetic to me just now - too much out of season in all senses\u2019. She says that Blagden stands on \u2018high ground\u2019 and wants reassurance that Blagden loves her despite \u2018these thorns\u2019. She says \u2018Tables move\u2013 Why should\u2019nt hearts? They will, dearest Isa. I know they will.\u2019. She mentions that the Du Qaires visited and Barrett Browning says her cold \u2018has drawn the life out of [her]\u2019. She advises that Annette should not go out in this weather.
