Barrett Browning says Blagden is mistaken if she thinks she is sitting in ecstasy. She has had some happiness seeing her sister Arabel in better health and her brothers however she ‘hate[s]’ Havre. She is sorry for the trial of Blagden with Fro (possibly her dog who has died). She asks where Blagden is going as she has let her apartment and speaks about the various merits and costs of Madrid, Florence, Rome and London. Barrett Browning says they will be in Florence mostly so Blagden will get most of them there. She asks Blagden for recommendations of things to see in Paris and references Gibson, Hatty (Harriet Hosmer) and Mr Page. She discusses of spiritualism and ‘Trollope’s remembrance of Hume’. She asks after Walter Savage Landor who is married. Peni can now swim alone.
