<value>This is a letter written from Rome, Italy. Barrett Browning urges Blagden to write and tell her whether she is fully recovered. She says she herself is ‘scarcely of sane mind about Italy’. She comments on the Italian political situation and thanks Blagden for sending pamphlets. Robert Browning recently dined with the Prince of Wales as he was deemed suitable company by the Queen. Barrett Browning urged him to talk of politics and ‘eschew compliments’. She complains ‘But oh, the English, the English! I am unpatriotic & disloyal to a crime, Isa, just now’. Robert Browning is gone with the Cartwrights and Mr Leighton to Grotta Ferrata. Barrett Browning thanks Blagden for sending her a Dumas extract. She asks Blagden to ‘try to get the book’ as she longs to ‘be within reach of books again’.

This letter has been transcribed in 'The Brownings' Correspondence', vol. 26, pp. 100–102 (Kansas: Wedgestone Press, 2019). It is transcribed online via The Brownings' Correspondence project, numbered 4368.</value>
