Barrett Browning says Blagden must stay with them when she visits Siena. There will be space when Elizabeth Wilson goes to Florence ‘to make preparations to receive her new nurseling Landor’. Barrett Browning herself is unwell and weak but means to be well in time for Blagden’s visit. Mr Story is ‘intemperate against the emperor’. Barrett Browning says she ‘expand[s]’ every day over the Monitore, and asks Blagden to ‘send sometimes the Corrière Mercantile’ if she can. However she says ‘Only Robert seemed to think I taxed you too much.’. She comments on the political situations in Italy and France and criticises Mrs Trollope for giving an ‘an unkind impression in her articles’ of Napoleon. Robert Browning has heard from Annette Bracken who is well and ‘about to go to Scotland & Ireland,—and to join Mrs Mackenzie in Paris in October, with the intention of being in Florence in January’. Blagden and Barrett Browning think this is a ‘a most extraordinary & most unfortunate choice’. Robert Browning and Wilson are looking after Landor who has improved a little. The Storys have been ‘very kind & attentive’. They ask for Pen regularly which relieves Robert Browning from having to tutor him constantly.
