Barrett Browning says she continues to regain strength. She says she liked Michele Amari and comments on the Tassinari affair (his arrest) and Mrs Trollope. Barrett Browning says she is glad she did not see Madame Tassinari: \u2018She is simply a woman, thinking & caring nothing for public affairs except as far as they have to do with her private interests\u2014heaps of women are the same: she is furious because she has the worst of it: that\u2019s natural enough\u2014& womanly, be it said,\u2014and ignoble be it confessed.\u2019 yet says she does not feel angry with her as she does with Gallenga.\n\nBarrett Browning says she has sent off her proofs and wonders if Blagden will like anything in her verses. Robert Browning has said she will \u2018be torn to pieces by the English press\u2019. She shall have the \u2018relief\u2019 of being honest though her sister Arabel has written to her, complaining that Barrett Browning \u2018will destroy \u201call my usefulness\u201d by spoiling my popularity\u2019. She gives an account she has heard from Fanny Haworth of Cobden\u2019s impressions of the emperor and further comments on political situation, She mentions that Thomas Robinson Hazard is in Rome. Barrett Browning has not been well enough to meet but wishes to. Robert likes him. She asks after Hume and says that Sophia Eckley is helping Harriet Beecher Stowe \u2018to commune with her dead son\u2019.
