Barrett Browning says she was so moved by Blagden’s account of the entrance of the king, she has written a poem seen 'through [Blagden's] eyes' (“King Victor Emanuel Entering Florence, April 1860.”). Mrs Stowe was very interested on Blagden’s letter on annexation. Barrett Browning says, ‘Dear, be good & be wise & take care of yourself, & remember that I love you, .. & that even Robert does, .. for all his naughtiness sometimes’. A friend has sent Barrett Browning a good review of Poems Before Congress from America. The editor of the Independent (New York) has offered her a hundred pounds for any of her poems, therefore Kate Field was wrong to worry that ‘Curse...’ would hurt her chances in America. Barrett Browning says ‘Speaking the truth is always the best prudence, even when one has to speak against slavery & in favor of the Emperor of the French.’ She comments on the Italian political situation and says she has had a ‘kind and generous letter’ from Forster regarding her poems.
