Barrett Browning comments on the landing of Garibaldi and his volunteers at Marsala. She says she likes Mrs Stowe and quotes her comments on England and France. Barrett Browning is glad Blagden also likes Stowe and mentions \u2018Minister\u2019s Wooing\u2019. She tells an anecdote about Pen. Barrett Browning says \u2018what triumphs for our Garibaldi, Italy\u2019s Garibaldi\u2014for indeed we must own him! God be thanked\u2019 and gives a description of how Rome has reacted. She says \u2018its the beginning of the end\u2019. She passes on anecdote from Fanny Haworth about seeing Hume in London: \u2018On Mrs Eckley being named, Hume exclaimed that \u201cshe was his bitterest enemy\u201d\u2013\u2019. Haworth may come to Italy while their own plans are uncertain.
