<value>This is a letter written from Rome, Italy. Barrett Browning comments on the landing of Garibaldi and his volunteers at Marsala. She says she likes Mrs Stowe and quotes her comments on England and France. Barrett Browning is glad Blagden also likes Stowe and mentions ‘Minister’s Wooing’. She tells an anecdote about Pen. Barrett Browning says ‘what triumphs for our Garibaldi, Italy’s Garibaldi—for indeed we must own him! God be thanked’ and gives a description of how Rome has reacted. She says ‘its the beginning of the end’. She passes on anecdote from Fanny Haworth about seeing Hume in London: ‘On Mrs Eckley being named, Hume exclaimed that “she was his bitterest enemy”–’. Haworth may come to Italy while their own plans are uncertain. They may summer at Velletri.
