Barrett Browning received two newspapers (Naziones) directed by Blagden’s hand. Her sister Arabel is in London and pretty well. She discusses news of the Italian political situation and a visit by Mr Dicey, making reference to Jessie Mario, Garibaldi, Alexandre Dumas and his newspaper. Mr Dicey feels for Mazzini but Barrett Browning is ‘stern’. She asks whether Blagden is at Casa Guidi and to go there if not. She mentions Hatty (Harriet Hosmer). She missed yesterday’s post so adds onto the letter ‘here is a letter from Lytton’. Fanny Haworth is in Paris. Mrs Bracken’s child Beppa is ill and Annette will surely be grieved. She asks after Elizabeth Jarves. She makes mention of the medium John Rollin M. Squire being in Paris. Barrett Browning calls Blagden ‘one of my lamps of the world’.
