Barrett Browning comments on both her and Blagden's respective health. Barrett Browning is \u2018pretty well again\u2019 despite being \u2018weak\u2019 and \u2018the world is heavy with me at times\u2019. She gives her views on the Athen\u00e6um on Theodosia Trollope. She says she met Madame Swab (\u2018She lives in England, though originally a German Jewess\u2014and came over to Italy in a flame of enthusiasm\u2019) and describes Swab\u2019s political opinions. She comments on the Italian political situation. She says they have the Atlantic Monthly where there is an amusing article on Keats by Cowden Clarke, a continuation of Harriet Prescott\u2019s \u201cThe Professor\u2019s Story\u201d, and an article on Italy which is \u2018not always right, but is more clear of prejudices than usual\u2019. She expresses her surprise that Adelaide Procter\u2019s poetry receives \u2018so favorable a reception\u2019 despite its weakness. Monckton Milnes she understands is quite aggrieved by this fact as he cannot sell his books, yet concedes that \u2018there is goodness & grace\u2019 in what Procter writes. She goes on to say \u2018It would, in fact, be horrible for me to be heard nibbling at another woman\u2019s poems. I would as soon that people said I dyed my hair\u2013\u2019. She comments on various publishers and the bringing forth of Blagden's book.
