<value>This is a letter written from Rome, Italy. Barrett Browning says she has the Nazione but with difficulty. She talks about the political situation including the imminent occupation of Rome by Italian troops. She praises ‘Napolean’s noble intentions & wonderful sagacity’. She criticises Lord John and the actions of the English. She says Robert Browning talked of Blagden’s ‘distrust of him, in respect to criticism’, feels she is ‘hard’ on him, ‘you must let him be “ungenerous” enough to read you. I long for ‘Agnes’—long, long!–’. She also comments on Dr Gryzanowski’s plan to move to America.

This letter has been transcribed in 'The Brownings' Correspondence', vol. 28, pp. 332–335 (Kansas: Wedgestone Press, 2022). It is transcribed online via The Brownings' Correspondence project, numbered 4833.</value>
