Barrett Browning says Blagden is \u2018out of spirits\u2019 but must not compare herself to others. She appears to refer to the Dr Gryzanowski affair. Even though Blagden\u2019s feelings \u2018remained safe & whole\u2014but the epidermis of the womanhood of us gets rubbed, irritated, by being thrust into certain positions\u2019. Yet Barrett Browning says Blagden shouldn\u2019t \u2018get disgusted with Florence\u2019 for this reason. She says that England will not suit Blagden though the literary networks in London are considerable. It is too large a city for people to see each other easily, unlike Florence. Moreover Blagden likes a view. Barrett Browning says the climate and that \u2018long Italian residence\u2019 \u2018has disorganised [Blagden] socially for English habits of life\u2019.\n\nShe makes veiled negative reference to Sophia Eckley and praises Mr Story\u2019s \u2018African Sibyl\u2019 (Libyan Sibyl): \u2018The type of race is preserved, yet the beauty is gorgeous, & the poetical sentiment of high order\u2013\u2019. She thinks the Emperor should order it made in marble for Algeria and asks Blagden\u2019s opinion in getting Fauvety to speak of it. She is not concerned by a recent \u2018attack\u2019 on Agnes Tremorne. She corrects Blagden's grammer, saying \u2018Now you\u2019re a regular authoress, I mean to use my axe freely on all your careless turns of style\u2019.
