<value>In this letter, Robert Browning Sr writes about Marozia (Marozia, born Maria and also known as Mariuccia or Mariozza ( c. 890 – 937)) who he says ‘was a plague to everybody’. He mentions the available books on the subject and notes that as this was a particularly dark period there is a ‘continual record of the most atrocious crimes – many of them committed by females, and those of the highest rank’. He criticises the way the men of this historical period have been represented by historians as well.

This letter has been listed on the Brownings' Correspondence project but not been transcribed. The date is taken from the Brownings' Correspondence Project.</value>
