White linen thread is worked in hem, double running, stem and counted satin stitch. There is also cut and drawn work with needle weaving and needle lace filling stitches. There is a plain selvedge at the top and bottom and the sides are hemmed. The sampler is divided into ten coloured bands and eight whitework ones. The former include horizontal repeat floral border patterns at the top; lower down the inscription 'Sarah Leafgreen her sampler' and another border pattern. Below this are four alphabets, numerals 1-21 and a balanced arrangement of eight birds, two dogs and two crowned lions either side of a flowering tree and flower spray.
