A floral border frames the main body of the sampler which comprises three horizontal sections separated by repeat border patterns. The top section contains an inscription, a flowering plant and a fruit tree. Section two also includes an inscription, meadows with trees and sheep. The third section includes the name, date and inscription 'Ann Merriman/her work in her/9th year/ 1785' inside a heart, a bird on a spray, a church inside a churchyard with trees, a house and garden and some birds in flight.
