The sampler is made up of three sections; the top section contains a narrow border design with an alphabet worked below it. The second section consists of an inscription of four verses and a band of five crowns and coronets; the third section contains the name 'Elizabeth Stephenson', the date '1739' and above this a heart is worked, below it a crown.
