All the edges are hemmed and finished with buttonhole stitch. The top of the sampler has three horizontal bands containing alphabets and numerals. Beneath this is a large square flanked on either side by three smaller squares. The large square has a wreath, flowers and a small male and female figure worked in addition to the initials 'DM', 'MS' and the date 1727. The four smaller squares all have all-over patterns.
