The sampler depicts a house with a lawn on which stand three sheep and a dog, a; a shepherd and shepherdess; the sun and moon; a pair of doves and a pair of cocks; trees; flowers in pots and a verse 'While you my dear your Needle-work attend/ Observe the counsel of a Faithful Friend/ And strive in inward Ornament to gain/ Or all your Needlework will prove in vain'.  Signed and dated below with 'Sarah Thurgoods/ work Aged 11/ Years 1826'.  All this is framed by a honeysuckle border.
