object type: Sampler, cotton, embroidered with linen thread in hem, running and back satin stitch.  Pink, violet, light violet, mid-green, light green, light turquoise and ochre cotton thread is worked in stem, whipped stem, feather, single feather, double knot, cross, buttonhole, knotted buttonhole, long and short buttonhole, herringbone, satin Rumanian, daisy, French knot and various small filling stitches.  The sampler is decorated with tassels, simple braiding, plaiting, ribbon bows and threaded insertions and with some examples of drawn thread work, tucks, seams and insertion stitches.  Bands of lace or broderie Anglaise join the six panels and the whole is backed by pink tissue paper.  Four panels are worked with horizontal bands of stitching; the fifth is decorated with symbols of the Crucifixion and the badge and emblems of the worker's convent school.  The sixth is decorated with three stylized figures of little girls and seven detached motifs.
