He modelled six tablets illustrating the life of Achilles in 1788. A pen and wash drawing by Pacetti of Achilles on the back of Centaur hunting a Lion is in the Wedgwood Museum, Barlaston. The source of the design was a classical marble, the Luna Disc, of c. 800-400 BC in the Capitoline Museum. It shows the hero mounted on a female centaur which was altered into Chiron, Achilles' tutor. See Documentation. This form was no. 266 in the Shape Book (54.80019? or 54.30019), and a jasper vase was illustrated in the 1787 Wedgwood Catalogue. It also appears in the 1888 Catalogue in Class XVIII, 'Vase with chariots in the/Clouds serpents round/handles'. See also the Shape Book watermarked 1794, rebound in 1916, no. 266. The snake handles could have been inspired by Urbino maiolica vases of the late sixteenth century.referenceterm-107437adlib-term-10743796f4b0d1-fc11-39ff-ae91-1b23d888d479George IIIreferenceterm-113623adlib-term-11362387ef9eaf-54a8-3838-8337-94dbf03aad62literalEnglandEnglandcountryliteralStaffordshireStaffordshireregionEtruriareferenceterm-106366adlib-term-106366b3c6d1ca-fe9f-38c0-bdd4-f8d83ac87a8fliteralItalyItalycountryRomereferenceterm-107483adlib-term-10748342cd0dfd-3d96-36f1-910d-7d1da88f245djasper wareBasecm9.2Heightcm34.2referencemedia-11535adlib-media-11535d6e0c306-624c-3660-b687-17d27a36656djpegaa/aa3/C_36_1935_281_29.jpg1heightpixels740widthpixels57016162801232861imagejpegaa/aa3/mid_C_36_1935_281_29.jpg1heightpixels649widthpixels50016162801232861imagejpegaa/aa3/C_36_1935_281_29.jpg1heightpixels740widthpixels57016162801232861imagejpegaa/aa3/preview_C_36_1935_281_29.jpg1heightpixels325widthpixels25016162801232861image0media
