The plate has an octagonal rim and a circular well, painted in the centre with the initials &#x2018;RC&#x2019; outlined in dots, within a cartouche of foliate scrolls surrounded by flowering branches. The sides are painted with an elaborate diaper border, interspersed with stylized pineapples and trefoils. The underside is painted in capital letters &#x2018;Mr ROBERT/ CROWTHER/STOCKPORT/CHESHIRE&#x2019; and in script, the date &#x2018;January 1770&#x2019;.</value>
