      <note>
        <value>The present bronze bears a close resemblance to statuettes of the Apollo Belvedere produced in Rome in the late 18th century by Giacomo (c. 1731-1785) and Giovanni Zoffoli (c. 1754-1805), such as those now in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (A.12-1974) and Nationalmuseum, Stockholm (NMSk 331). The Zoffoli ran a thriving business, producing small bronze copies of famous works of sculpture for the Grand Tour market. As the present bronze is said to have been commissioned by the donor in Rome in c. 1830, it cannot have been produced by the Zoffoli, as Giacomo had died in 1785 and Giovanni died in 1805.</value>
