DESCRIPTIVE DATA
----------------
object type: Copper alloy, probably gilt-bronze, with marble and agate base. Christ is shown being flagellated by two men. The three statuettes, the discarded garment and sash, all in gilt-bronze, and the short column of yellow agate, are set on the original base faced in mottled green marble. The base has salients at either end of its long sides, and a concave moulding running round it, against which are attached three gilt-bronze cartouches. A matt-punch and burnisher have been used to differentiate between textures, such as the inside and outside of Christ's abandoned robe, or the bare flesh and the loincloths. The flagellator on the right is missing most of his two scourges.
