DESCRIPTIVE DATA
----------------
object type: Silver, parcel-gilt; the rounded V-shaped bowl is gilt inside and at the top of the exterior. It stands on a cyclindrical column with large central lobed knop. Above and below the knop are openwork collars of ropework with applied decoration. The low trumpet-shaped spreading hexagonal foot is embossed with scrolling foliage and stylised leaves on a matted ground. In each of the six corners a circular engraved medallion is applied: a rampant lion with legend MADONA * + MARIA, and going clockwise, a female Saint, a Bishop; a monastic Saint, a monastic Saint with both arms raised, a Bishop The hexagonal sides curve in slightly and stand on a low vertical foot rim, which is pierced with a border of quatrefoils. There are traces of gilding on the exterior of the chalice, suggesting the gilding on the interior and at the rim is a replacement.
