Central silvered alarm setting disc with hour divisions and arabic numerals. The dial centre engraved with formalised foliage. Flat pierced and engraved brass spandrels riveted in place. Pierced steel hour hand with tail for set¬ting the alarm, the minute hand missing. Movement: Thirty hour movement with three trains for going, hour striking and repeating, and alarm. Gilt movement with square brass plates separated by four English style turned brass pillars pinned on the bottom plate. The bottom plate engraved with a gadrooned border, scrolled decoration and the signa¬ture ‘J. J. Lenhiuk London'. There is a trace of other engraving under the border on the side oppo¬site to the signature. Going train with seven turn fusee and chain, verge escapement. Tompion type regulator with brass disc numbered 1,2,3,4, in ara¬bic numerals, set in brass plate pierced and engraved with scrolling foliage. The English style balance cock similarly decorated. Striking train with resting barrel and fly with three spherical weights, the hammer tail lifted by a star wheel. Rack striking with the snail mounted on a star wheel for accurate repeating of the hours by an external cord connected to the lifting piece. Alarm train with resting barrel and stop work on top plate. Hammer tail lifted by star wheel and similar fly to that on striking train. Striking and alarm hammers and bell are all modern replacements. Case: 4 1/2 inches square by 3 1/4 inches high, of gilt brass with the top moulding engraved with floral and other designs. Side windows held in shaped and engraved bronze frames. Bronze ball and claw feet with winged knees.
