IDENTIFIERS ----------- id: 140164 accession number: C.206 & A-1918 DATE AUDIT ---------- created: Saturday 6 August 2011 updated: Tuesday 1 March 2016 DESCRIPTIVE DATA ---------------- object type: Hard-paste porcelain, thrown, with applied moulded handle and spout, tin-glazed and painted in green, yellow, pale purple, red, and shades of brown enamel, and gilt. The pear-shaped pot stands on a low foot. The loop handle is of shallow D section with a moulded leaf at the top and a slight upward kick at the lower end. The partly covered spout is applied below a projecting moulding round the top of the pot, and has foliage in relief at its base. The flat rim has two shallow rectangular indentations. The cover is flat on top with a stepped rim, and a knob in the shape of a pear-shaped jar and cover. Underneath it has a sloping hollow cylindrical centre with two rectangular projections which fit into the indentations in the rim of the pot, and when turned to right or left, prevent the top falling off when the jug is tipped forward. The sides of the pot are decorated alla sassone with two different scenes of putti mourning broken-heartedly over urns on pedestals in a garden setting, surrounded by frames comprising two pale purple kidney-shaped and two smaller heart-shaped panels linked by strapwork and scrolls in gold and red. The edges and moulded foliage on the spout and handle are gilded and there are two gold bands round the foot and two round the rim. The cover has two pale purple kidney-shaped panels flanked by scrolls in gold and red, and two concentric gold bands round the rim.
