  <description>
    <value>Soft-paste porcelain, glazed and painted in polychrome enamels. The globular pot has a spout in the form of a bird's head, an elaborately scrolled handle, and a flat cover with a knob in the form of a cherry. The two sides are each painted with a different design comprising an exotic bird, a group of fruit, a butterfly, and other insects. On the curved shoulder there is a border of Chinese diaper and flowers, and round the neck, a narrow border of scrolls. The spout is decorated with a floral spray. The edge of the foot is encircled by a green band. The cover is decorated with grapes and flowers. The glaze has many speckles.</value>

        <value>The elaborately scrolled handle of this teapot is unusual, and it can be attributed securely to Longton Hall on the basis of a sherd of a similar handle found at the factory site (see Documentation). The fanciful spout is characteristic of the Rococo style in teapots, which often had spouts with ends in the shape of bird's or monster's heads with open mouths.</value>
