The flat, unglazed, underside has a large round central ventilation hole flanked by smaller circular holes. The elongated oval base has a scrolled and frilled edge and upper surface, with a naturally-coloured tree stump in the middle supporting the prancing horse. The area round the stump has a green and yellow mossy surface and is decorated with four hand-modelled flowers painted in different colours. The horse is going towards the left with the cavalier in profile to the viewer. The white horse is dappled with black spots and has a black tail. Its black bridle is decorated with yellow rosettes, and on its back there is a mauve blanket and pistol holders.
