It is held in an oval ebony frame on a rectangular ebonised board. In each corner of the board is a shaped triangular plaque depicting the four seasons. Each plaque is finely embossed, chased and engraved. Spring has a basket of flowers; summer has the sun shining on a tree and two buildings with sheaves of wheat in the foreground; autumn has grapes, melons and fruit, and winter has a bare tree with game (rabbits and birds) hanging in the foreground.
