object type: Boiled, stamped and engraved leather (cuir bouilli) covering carved wood, lined with parchment.  Oval with straight sides and a slightly domed hinged lid (the hinge missing).  The lid decorated in high relief with scrolling foliage round an empty cartouche, and a border of flowerheads.  The base stamped with a plant of scrolling tulip-like flowers.  One side fitted with an iron catch.
