A medial ridge runs the full length of the blade, and there are with wings at the base round which an iron loop is twisted. At the forte is a massive reinforcing bar, shaped like a sword blade, attached by four great rivets. The hilt comprises a figure-8 guard, thin grip swelling to the centre, and a large, deep dish pommel through which the tang is riveted. The hilt is covered with black paint, the blade polished bright and deeply pitted from earlier corrosion.
