The hilt comprises a figure-8 guard, angled across the centre with two notches at either side, with wings and reinforces in the form of a sword blade, attached by three rivets with brass washers. The grip is thin, swelling to mouldings at the centre, and there is a deep but narrow dish pommel. Around the junction of the wings and langets is a cusped and scalloped iron band.
