<value>Presumably this was converted from a conventional gun to a combination matchlock and axe. The end of the spike shows evidence of it having been fitted into the socket of an axe haft. Taylor describes ‘horseman’s matchlock pistol. Axe head no 97 belongs to this.’ (O.128-1879).</value>
