At the forte the blade widens into pierced and cusped wings with traces of incised floral ornament. The hilt comprises a steel guard and knucklebow, and grip and pommel of wood. The guard is a narrow oval, with a finial at the top and a quite crude knucklebow ending in an oval finial. The grip is bent, and formed of two pieces of dark wood riveted to the tang. The pommel is made in one piece of wood, of large lunate form with a groove down the centre, and riveted to the tang.
