  <description>
    <value>A katana in Shirasaya. Sugata: [configuration]: shinogi-zukuri, broad, slight koshizori curve, medium point
Kitae: [forging pattern]: o-itame with much ji-nie
Hamon [tempering pattern]: gunome-choji of nioi with ko-nie
Boshi [tip]: kaen style
Horimono [carving]: kakinagasu bohi with soehi stopping 31.4cm above the mune machi
Nakago [tang]: suriage, katte-sagari file marks, two holes
Habaki [collar]: wood integral with shirasaya
Nagasa [length of blade]: length of blade 71.7cm , length of tang 24.1cm, curve 1.7cm
Koshirae [mounting]: in shirasaya

Although giving an initial appearance of age,and has an inscription suggesting it to be the work of a great 12th-13th century smith, the blade is a 19th century shinshinto and probably shortened around the time of it&#x2019;s export from Japan at the end of the 19th century.</value>
