object type: Mother-of-pearl and gilt metal; the shallow fig-shaped mother-of-pearl bowl is incised on the back with a rat's tail and two lines round the top of the rim.  The flat mother-of-pearl handle is carved with a rope border and an acanthus leaf terminal.  The bowl and handle are joined by a gilt metal ferrule, which is engraved with a geometric pattern of foliage and has an applied bust of a soldier in high relief on the front.
