DESCRIPTIVE DATA

object type: White metal, parcel-gilt, steel and wood; the knife has steel blade which tapers to a pointed tip, and a gilt white metal handle which is circular in section.  The lower stem of the handle is engraved with borders of lines and chevrons; the upper part consists of a series of fluted knops and calyxes and terminates in a small ball.  The fork has two long steel tines and a handle similar to that of the knife, but without the engraved border on the handle. The white metal (silver) sheath is approximately oval in section and tapers towards the stylised flame knop.  The sides are heavily embossed with a pattern of leaves and scrolls, and have applied decorative borders and a deep band of wrapped wirework.  On the side of the rim is a ring.  The interior is fitted with wood.
