In the centre a sunburst design in blue and white on a gilt ground. Blued steel spade hands. A small square above the XII for regulating the pendulum and a similar square below the VI for starting the pendulum, the latter being a very rare feature. Movement: French movement, with square plates, the back plate stamped ‘GV3723.', the gong block stamped `F D' and the pendulu77m starting lever stamped ‘E. Loubdelert. BTE S.G.O.G.' Two trains, striking hours and ting-tang quarters on gongs. Brocot escapement and Brocot suspension. Repair label inside back door:- ‘Barraud & Lunds / 49 Cornhill. / Set going 1880 / Cleaned February 1888 / etc'. Case: Designed by Henry and Lewis F. Day and made by Howell & James, the back marked `DEPOSÉ /3723' with `kite' mark indicating that the design was regis¬tered on 22nd February, 1878. Square ebonised case with panelled ends and a gallery round the top, with a removable superstructure in the form of a tiled roof.
