object type: Silver wine taster with engraved inscription, set with a coin
Circular shallow bowl with cast loop handle; the base set with a one Franc coin of 1858.  On the base is a rope edged border which acts as a foot.  The loop handle is applied to the rim at right-angles to the body and is formed of a snake with engraved body.  The obverse of the coin depicts Napoleon III, bears the legend ‘NAPOLEON III EMPEREUR’, and is signed ‘BARRE’. The reverse depicts a laurel wreath containing the legend ‘I FRANC 1858’; above is ‘EMPIRE FRANÇAIS’.  The rim, to the right of the handle, is engraved ‘R.MALRIEU’.
