object type: Soft-paste porcelain (? bone china), moulded, and painted overglaze in green and yellow enamels and gilt. The glaze on the reversr is rather speckly. Oval with four shallow lobes, and shallow curved sides, standing on a footring. Decorated in the middle with a yellow flower on a stalk with leaves and a prickly bud, and round the edge with a broad band of gilding. The name of the plant, ‘Devils Fig./or Prickly Poppy' is inscribed on the base in pale purple enamel.
