object type: 'Venetian' sallet, for field use. Of deep, one-piece construction with a rounded, medially-ridged crown, a short 'tail' over neck, and a T-shaped face-opening reinforced around its margin with a flat strip attached by seven round-headed rivets.  The lower edge of the helmet has a plain outward turn.  The base of the crown is encircled by eighteen externally-flush lining rivets.  Beneath them at either side are a further pair of externally flush rivets for the attachment of a pair of chin-straps.  A pair of holes high up the front of the crown and a single hole at the rear of the crown may have served to secure a crest.
