DESCRIPTIVE DATA
----------------
object type: Zischägge, for light cavalry use. Formed of a skull, a broad flat peak, a sliding nasal-bar with a retaining staple and wing-headed locking-screw, a broad neck-defence of three upward-overlapping lames and a pair of narrow pendant cheek-pieces each of three lames. The one-piece skull is boxed in six vertical panels, decorated around its base with a broad recessed border and fitted at its apex with a pierced finial retaining a large, circular washer. The main edges of the peak and the neck-defence have plain inward turns, except at their centres where their acute points have been truncated and decorated with large V-shaped nicks. The separate peak is attached to the brow of the skull by round-headed rivets. The peak is crudely pierced at its point with a later suspension-hole. The centre of the last lame of the neck-defence is decorated with a circular pattern of round-headed rivets. The cheek-pieces and the nasal-bar are modern restorations. The neck-defence is fitted with a leather lining.
