IDENTIFIERS ----------- id: 18610 accession number: HEN.M.129-1933 DATE AUDIT ---------- created: Saturday 6 August 2011 updated: Wednesday 11 January 2023 DESCRIPTIVE DATA ---------------- object type: Collar, for field use. Formed of a single plate front and rear, each of which is flanged upwards at the neck-opening. The unusually shallow rear plate has a slightly convex lower edge. The deep front plate has inward-sloping sides and an obtusely-pointed lower edge. The front and rear plates are connected to one another at the left shoulder by a round-headed rivet with a circular internal washer, and fastened at the right shoulder by a mushroom-shaped stud and keyhole-slot. The main edges of the collar have plain inward turns decorated with simple punched ornament. The collar is decorated with bands and borders of punched flowerheads, trophies of arms and human figures on a pearled ground. The decoration retains traces of gilding. The shallow rear plate is of highly unusual form. As its turned edges show no traces of the punched decoration found on the turned edges of the front plates, and the trophies of arms that appear in the decoration of its upper border are upside down, it is quite possible that the plate has been reworked. title: collar NOTES ----- type: history note value: Mr James Stewart Henderson of 'Abbotsford', Downs Road, St Helen's Park, Hastings, Sussex.
