Formed of an outer plate and a considerably shorter inner plate. The latter, which has a later extension-plate riveted within its front end, is riveted within the former. The outer plate has a plain partial inward turn at its lower front corner where it is cut away in a concave curve to clear the inside of the elbow. The lower end of the centre plate is pierced with a pair of rivet-holes. The rear hole is occupied by an externally-flush rivet that retains a fragment of a modern leather that would have linked the upper cannon to a couter. The inner plate is clearly associated with the outer plate.
