The rectangular base has rounded corners and many indentations under a dark brown glaze. It supports two grotesque birds: a tall father bird who has a removable head with a large pointed beak, huge clawed feet, his right wing outstretched and his left protectively round the shoulders of his smaller offspring who has a parrot-like beak. Both are decorated with contrasting areas of the various colours.
